i agree that the volume increases but the bob will not creak out this is because the friction between the ice and the wall of the bob doest not allow to form it solid so the bob does not crack open

it measures weigth of the body and not mass
  the weighing machine in a lift shows the loss or gain of weight when in motion with accleration other than g, real weigth on earth when at rest adn zero weight when accleration is equal to g

as it is a pendulum the time period is 2[ ]l/g so it doesnt depend on the mass of the bob
if it is a time period of a loaded spring then mass comes into consideration

  =70X70/2X10
 =245cm
 =2.45m

rohanroy is correct but there is a small mistake in finding out Sn+1.

there (a/2)(2(n+1)-1) = (a/2)(2n+1) and not -1

now find out the ratio

please resolve the forces acting on the man in the dich
now u get fcos#,fsin#,fcos#,fsin#               (#----theta)
2fcos#=mg
f=mg/2cos#
as the man moves up cos# value decreases
let he is from heigth h from the ground
cos#=h/z
z=

[ ]h^2=(d/2)^2
f=mg/2(h/z)
f=mgz/2h
 =mg
[ ]h^2+d^2/4
