The equation is applied for unbalanced force.

solving first equn by using
                             tan a=1/cot a,
  u get
    cotAcotB+1=(x+y)/x

  also u get cotA-cotB=y after solving it in terms of cot and tan.putting them in cot(A-B) u get the ans as (x+y)/xy

nik is very very very closer, just a diff of points. so nik is correct.the correct ans is 20.1ft/s sq.

aditya's ans must also b correct  but as g=10m/s  sq  is not supplied,i think  g  should b taken  9.8m/s sq.

             congrats to all.hope u hav enjoyed it

i solved a verma sum last day.it took almost 12 hours. then i rang up my friend and he gave me the hint.i too will post the hint after 6 hrs.the problem ,i m sure,will be solved here quickly.here is the question:

      An elevator is descending with uniform accelaration. To measure the accelaration, a person in the elevator drops a coin at the moment the elevator starts.The coin is 6 ft above the floor of the elevator at the time it is dropped. The person observes that the coin strikes the floor in 1 second. Calculate from these data the accelaration of the elevator.

i solved a loney sum last day .i found the sum interesting and so decided to share it with u.the problem is simple.so try it

at the foot of a mountain the elevation of its summit is found to b 45 degree.after ascending 1000m towards the mountain up a slope of 30 degree inclination,the elevation is found to be 60 degree.find the height of the mountain.

         GOOD  LUCK!!!!

another addition:   a quantity will be a vector quantity if it has magnitude,direction and follows triangle law of addition
     current is not vector because it doesn't obey triangle law of addition

water equivalent of any substance means the amount of water having same heat capacity as that substance.

heat lost by water(hot)=400*1*3=1200 cal
heat gained by water(cold) and calorimeter=150*1*2+ms*2=300+2ms

now,  1200=300+2ms
         2ms=900
        ms=450 cal

i hope i m correct.rate me if u plz
