I will also go for BITS-Goa. See placement depends on your individual performance. I went to Pilani. I met Placement Officer there. He told me that a B.Pharma topper gets better pacakge than the last guy/gal in BE Computer Science. Same logic for two different colleges. So placement does not depend upon college only. Secondly, those the initial package is only for a year. Your package gets increased depending upon yur performance. So don't worry much. Both Trichy and BITS-Goa are good. Infra in Goa is 100 times better. In Trichy , it is going to be worse in next 2 years with full 27% reservation. Can any govt college make 50% more hostels in 2 years as intake is going to be increased by 54% by 2010. Even IITs can't.
To prove my point, just see NIT, Nagpur website. It has no hostels now for M.Tech students. And for recently admitted B.Tech people, as against 520+ intake, the hostel facility is only for 368 boys and 38 girls. Where the balance will go ? In rented accommodation. Do such things don't count ? Go to a library of BITS and NIT. Yu will find the difference.
Yes from your side it is ok. But I want that at least 20-30 people reply.
All those who have applied in BITS, please reply the following and I will give you a near exact cut-off of 3rd iteration.
1. How many candidates, you know, who have scored more than 307 and got waitlisted in Ist iteration on 01 July and have now got EEE/ENI/CSE at Goa and Hyderabad now in 2nd iteration on 13 July.
2. How many of these candidates have got good branches in NITs and decided not to join BITS and so they will not pay the balance fee of Rs.30000/- to BITS.
Reply soon. Don't worry if you know one or two or three or more of such candidates. If you don't know anyone like this, then also write nil.
May be faculty at Goa not as good as Pilani. No. may be less but quality will not be much less because most of the faculty in Goa is from Pilani with years of experience. Just see the website.
Moreove, u should compare faculty at NIT Trichy with Goa. Infrastructure wise Goa is 100 times better than Trichy. Opportunity wise both may be same.
@ adhikar
See BITS is one of the best Engg Colleges in India. You can say it is next only to IITs. Now your query about EEE at Goa and Civil/Mech at Pilani. In general, if you don't have a very keen interest for Civil/Chem, EEE at Goa is 10 times better than Civil/Mech in Pilani.
Campus matters as also branch matters. Here you are not comparing a ordinary college with BITS, Pilani. In that case, anything in Pilani would have been advisable. U are comparing Pilani and Goa, where the difference is not much. So u have given correct choice. EEE at Goa is a very good course.
Finally, all these talk of grading of campus and who is better than whom will come to end after you complete your BE. Then it will be your knowledge, your real worth, your performance in the college and mainly in the job will decide your future. Dont be worried even after gettign EEE Goa.
Gyanbala has a point but not entirely correct. There is no doubt that IITs, BITS, top 6-7 NITs, DEC, NSIT, IIIT Hyd (Definitely not VJTI) are the best engg colleges. But what you have written after that is not correct.
Those getting in these top colleges has an edge over others. But after that it depends on how these people make use of opportunities given to them. A hard working ordinary engg college student can DEFINITELY surpass a careless student in IIT or BITS or anywhere. So the edge is there, the rest depends on the students. It is like that Bansal Coaching has many selected in IITs. But can everyone in Bansal claim that. Or those not in Bansal don't get selected ?
I know few who have studied in very ordinary Engg Colleges in Bombay and got selected in IIMs. Now can anyone say that they will be any less than those from IITs, BITS or IIIT.
So the conclusion is that yes these colleges are the best. The students there has an edge. But what happens in future depend upon what they do in future.
I am surprised how some of us talk without any logic and against facts. Let me give my opinion based on hard facts and not mere imagination and biases.
1. Some are telling that in BITSAT, those who have scored between 250 to 300 have increased dramatically. TOTALLY INCORRECT. Go and see the statistics given by BITS in its website. The no of candidates who have scored between 250 and 300 remains the same this year (about 8000) but the no. of candidates scoring above 300 has DECREASED by 500. This despite substantial increase in no. of candidates appeared.
2. Yes, everyyear BITS announces a final cut-off for waitlist and so far it has stuck to that cut-off. So this year, final cut-off should be 251. But again this year is a different one. More IIT seats and AIEEE new pattern counselling is definitely going to make an impact in BITS. So there is a possibility that cut-off may go down below 251. It may or may not but there is a possibility.
3. By common sense, the cut-offs for all streams will fall for sure. Of course, the fall will not be as steep in case of CS, EEE as for M.Sc courses. But fall of about 10 marks for all courses is going to happen.
4. So those not getting firm admission offer from BITS should keep a back up plan ready and wait for the best.
5. I also make a request to all not to make baseless statements as this creates too much anxiety in a candidate at this crucical hour of his career.
Hey bits360 your strange logic is only 20% correct. Your point that cut-offs after 1st iteration has fallen so drastically because over a period of 3-4 years, BITS people now know with reasonable guess that how many are going to finally join. Till that point you are ok. But yr logic that Hyd can be last option for many and so cut-offs will not fall drastically is not correct.
The first cutoff is just an indication. The list after 2nd iteration will clear all confusion. I am reasonably sure that cut-off for all branches in all campus will fall by at least 8-12 marks. Even for CS it will fall. There is no doubt about that. So relax. Write only when you are sure. My logic for fall in cut-off is based on very obvious factors like increase in IIT seats, AIEEE counselling on AIR rank for 50% seats in NITs and BITS Statistics itself which clearly shows that the paper was tough and only about 11000 people could score above 250 despite good increase in no. of appearing students (may be about 90000 - don' t say it is 1.17 lakh because that is those who have applied NOT appeared). So this year 11000 for 2000 seats as against last year's 12000 for 1400 seats. You can draw logical conclusion.
Don't try to give weird calcualation based on perceptions. Keep that for Engg. course. For the present, be rational, and draw conclusions from very obvious statistics. Best of luck to all.
At 1940 AIR, if you are interesed in computers. go for IIIT Hyderabad only.
No doubt about that. You can do MBA from IIMs or elsewhere.
@ ashwarya
It looks a bit confusing. You have applied only for BE degrees and MSC infosystem and asking whether u will get M.Sc Hons. How can u get one if you have not applied for it.
At 262 score, u are likely to get M.Sc only. So if you have not applied so far, please do it immediately. Today it is 27th. Only 2 days left. If you are so interested in BITS, rush there and submit the fresh preference form.
By the way, when their instructions are so clear, how do u people do such lapses.
the discussion started with comparing NIT, LNMIIT and DAIICT and it has gone to some other direction. I don't know about Jaypee Noida and so will not comment.
DAIICT is a deemed universit by the Gujarat State Govt and its students can appear in CAT and other exams. That is given in the website of DAIICT. There was some problem 3-4 years back but High Court ruled in its favour. The infrastructure of the college is pretty good and it will develop in future.
LNM IIT is also a deemed university. Infrastructure again excellent. But both DAIICT and LNM IIT are new colleges. They can't match those colleges like NITs (only the top 8 or 9) which are there for last so many years particularly in terms of placement etc. So the placements in both the institutes are average. I have even personally talked to the heads of these institutes.
So if you prefer a Govt organisation with 50 years standing, a deemed university status, a good faculty but somewhat poor infrastructure in terms of maintenance of buildings (not in terms of area, because NITs campus are ten times larger than these colleges) then GO FOR NITs.
If you prefer a private orgnisation, new one but fast developing, presently with less than average placements (as compared to NITs) but with an excellent infrastructure then GO FOR DAIICT, LNM IIT etc.
I have 14000 AIR and Maharashtra State Rank of 700. I am interested in NIT, Surat. I am a girl. I have also heard abut poor infrastructure and ragging in the college. Pl. write about the Hostels conditions now and also about ragging.
What is KVPY ? Whether NIT,Surat is better than Jaipur and Nagpur or of equal level.
