I guess it will depend on +I or -I effect....for eg. NO2CH-C(=0)CH3 will pull electrons towards itself due to -I effect of both N & C...so it will increase the delta+ charge on the carbonyl carbon , and so will make it a better candidate for Nucleophillic addition............
Isn't Nucleophilic addition reaction (like addition of HCN) a process where there is no intermediate or carbocation/anion formed...then how can we decide??
