can we prepare for iit on our own if we wish to??

i am very much tensed whether i should join tuitions for iit .

i am taking brilliant tutorials study material for iit.

i am also studying many other books.

but i am confused as all my classmates go some or the other tuitions for iit preparation. but i have self preparation habit ,i usually donot remain totally dependent on tuitions ,besides this i think that tuition sirs just give the material from books which we can too read on our own

i go tuitions for organic chem and physics(for ISC exam)

i have seen my friends going to tuitions daily for 4_5 hrs and after returning home they r busy completing sheets given by their sirs and then do else work on their own.

i cannot follow this time table as i need continous time to study.

can u please advice me what should i do as i am gonna appear for iit jee in 2008?

how to understand a mechanism of a reaction??

i know all the basic concepts but i dont understand that which reaction is SN1,SN2, where there occurs a homolytic fission and where heterolytic one.

how to understand that where an electrophile or a nucleophile will attack.

i have read many books but just explain the definitions or the characteristics,some reactiond but i am not getting how to write the mechanism on our own.

how to draw a sawhorse,staggered,eclipsed form of an optically active isomer

perfect to understand the concepts and the sums too are good

and how to draw a sawhorse structure?

i do think the same .in coordinate bond overlapping of bonds takes place along the axis although one orbital is empty whereas the other has an extra electron .

but i am confused whether teh concept of sigma ,pi bonds can be applied to coordiante bond

why do electrophiles attack trichloromethyl benzene at meta pos . whereas they attack benzene ring at ortho and para pos. in chloromethyl benzene?????????
