Sugars that contain aldehyde groups that are oxidised to carboxylic acids are classified as reducing sugars.
Common test reagents are :

Benedicts reagent (CuSO₄ / citrate)
Fehlings reagent
(ex -hemiacetal

with sodium nitroprusside and few drops of alkali

Aldehydes give a deep red colour (execpt formaldehyde)

whereas in Ketones red colour changes to orange.

only (b) will undergo cannizaro reaction .All aldehydes containing no alpha hydrogen atoms on heating wid conc. alkali undergo cannizaro reaction.In this reaction 1 mole is oxidised and other 1 mole is reduced.

All the bonds are not identical ,there are 2 axial bonds and and 3 equatorial bonds just minimize the repulsion.As phosphorus atom share 5electrons with 5 chlorine atoms .The 5 bond pairs acquire trigonal bipyramidal.Where axial P-Cl bonds are relatively longer then equatorial bonds .Bond angle b/w axial & equatorial bonds are 90 while that b/w equatorial bonds is 120.
