first one:

he's falling frm h=(50+s)m           (suppose)

velocity when he's covered 50m = 2*g*50

            = 100g          (=u for the rest of his journey)

so we have

u=100g

retardation = 2m/s^2

final velocity v = 2m/s

 

v^2 = u^2 - 2as

(2)² = 100g - 2(2)(s)

4 = 980 -4s

4(s)=976

s=244

 

and already he has covered 50m right?

so the total distance covered is 244+50 = 294
