[Figure for question 8]The shown arrangement is in a horizontal plane. The particle with mass m is restricted to move in an elliptical orbit with shown dimension. The particle has velocity v at the shown position towards right. Length of rod is 2l. The coefficient of restitution between the particle and the rod is 1/3. The moment of inertia of rod is I, about O.

  1. Find the locus of mid-point of spring of force constant K3.

  2. Find the frequency of the rod.

  3. What would be the maximum angular displacement of the oscillating system.

  4. (Assume only one collision)

A friend of mine puzzelled me with this saying it deserves some brain tackling, and sure it does.Well, i have tried it myself..its quite a question. Hope you all enjoy it. I am finding it difficult but it may be easier for you  .Hope you enjoy solving it..I am still on it..

Lets see can you solve it before me.

Keep smiling.....

Catalogs Discussion Forums -> Physical Chemistry -> what is meant by equivalent mass . i want no formula . but what it means if we say 1 equi. -> Go to message

well, bladeX , you are right in not asking for the formulae as its quite useless....

equivalent mass is simply the mass of an atom, element, molecule or compound w.r.t. the atom, element, molecule respectively(similar substances are required for comparison for eg. you cannot weigh rice using a litre of water, but using a kilogram of water..right)

in chemistry, the equivalent mass sugests for finding the valency or reactivity of a substance towards other substance...(useful in predicting possible reactions.). furthermore for convieniance and easier study of reactions..we use the three best(not the most) reactives of the world of chemistry(oxygen,hydrogen,chlorine)...for wrapping up most of the elements in our study..

study of inorganic chemistryis concised by equivalent mass..
thats what is the true use and meaning of equivalent(remember: comparision).

well, any doubt then scrap me orpost your query here itself..

well..i would say...a good pack of formulaes...
few part of the post is well...appreciative...like the way you have represented the sin, cos and tan...in begnning for better rememberance..
it would be much better if you provide the process of arriving to the results and few reasonings......
it would be helpful if its self written and proved than to copy-paste...
like ....
how would you represent..
tan (a+b) formula...in (hieght/base) form?? think...

well ...make the posts more innovative..its really useful..
