@Ratnesh, KMnO4 sure will oxidise acetylene as it shud. Dont get carried away by the 'alkaline' KMnO4.

Ans given NaOH is correct acc to the solution.

But tell me how come an acidic compound like acetylene not react with NaOH ?

Study " AIEEE Chemistry in 40 days " by Dr Praveen Kumar(ARIHANT).

Its an excellent book for AIEEE Chemistry.

And it really does prepare you in less than 40 days.

If you study it with dedication it can be completed in 4-5 days.
