Catalogs Discussion Forums -> Physical Chemistry -> What is the pH of 2M HCl solution? -> Go to message
This Post 0 points    (Olaaa!! Perrrfect answer.   in 0 votes )   [?]

 HCl-> H+  +  Cl-

[H+]=2 or pH=-.0.301

This is not possible because pH range is 0-14

pH=-logaH * activity coefficient

Therefore,unless unit activity coeffeicient is given it is not possible to calculate pH of the solution

 I think it it would be b because no2 is an elecron withdrawing group which will pull the electron density towards it?

 See when we have a electron pushing group say at position one...by resonance we get more electron density at ortho,para position to which the posibilty of electrophile is attracted more. when there is an electron withdrawing group, the electron density is lessend in ortho para position thereby now the electron density at meta is more than that at ortho and para and therefore the electrophile is directed to the meta position..

Please note that when an electron withdrawing group is there the electron density is not increased  at meta but the electron density at ortho and para positions is decreased

 Let distance between S and M2 be 'd' so that total distance is 30+d.

Now,for M2-  f=20

                       u=-d=>v=20d/(20+d) to the right of M2

Therefore,

for M1, since image formed at S itself,

u= -((30+d)+ 20d/(20+d))

         distance

       from M1

         to M2

v=-30

f=-20

Therefore,

d2 + 10d-600=0=>d=20=>distance = 50cm

Catalogs Discussion Forums -> Algebra -> if 'r' b d ratio of d roots of d eq ax^2+bx+c=0 den (r+1)^2/r is ans:b^2/ca -> Go to message
This Post 0 points    (Olaaa!! Perrrfect answer.   in 0 votes )   [?]

Let the roots be x1,x2 then x2/x1=r

x1+x2=-b/a    or 1+(x2/x1)= -b/(ax1)=> 1+r =-b/(ax1)------I

x1x2=c/a  or x2/x1= c/(x12 )=>r= c/(x12) ---------------II

 now squaring  I and dividing by II you get the answer:)

 Don't think it is fe.. Reactions of the iron ions with hydroxide ions

Hydroxide ions (from, say, sodium hydroxide solution) remove hydrogen ions from the water ligands attached to the iron ions.

When enough hydrogen ions have been removed, you are left with a complex with no charge - a neutral complex. This is insoluble in water and a precipitate is formed.

In the iron(II) case:

In the iron(III) case:

Catalogs Discussion Forums -> Inorganic Chemistry -> why xenon forms compounds even though its a noble gas -> Go to message
This Post 6 points    (Olaaa!! Perrrfect answer.   in 3 votes )   [?]

 in 1962 Neil Bartlett at the University of British Columbia treated xenon gas with PtF6 and prepared the first noble gas compound consisting of platinum, fluorine and xenon.

This is because xenon has ionization potential similar to oxygen.

a natural question that arises is why radon cannot...this is because it is radioactive.

 11.

Consider masses m1,m2,m3..

vcm=

Now if all the velocities have same magnitude and direction but here speeds are same.

Then vcm=v1=v2 etc.(Take out the velocity term and masses gets cancelled)

10.here momentum is mv...generally we consider masses to remain constant so that is why the answer is given as vlocity...however in the case of rocket propulsion where fuel gets decreased or mass gets decreased the velocity remains constant but not the mass

Catalogs Discussion Forums -> Organic Chemistry -> how is the stability of alkyl free radicals be explained ? hoe come its 3>2>1 -> Go to message
This Post 0 points    (Olaaa!! Perrrfect answer.   in 0 votes )   [?]

 The stabiity of the alkyl free radical can be explained by the increasing trend in inductive effect of the alkyl group...since in tertiary there are three alkyl groups naturally it is more than secondary(two alkyl groups) or primary(one alkyl group):)

The Order of reaction , in chemical kinetics, with respect to a certain reactant is defined, as the power to which its concentration term in therate equation is raised.

So if it is a negative order reaction it means the reaction proceeds furher inversely to the reactant which i don't think is possible.

However,

WIKIPEDIA:Negative order reactions are rare, for example the conversion of ozone (order 2) to oxygen (order -1).
