well dear, ice has hexagonal structure. it has space in between. but when heated, these structures break and water molecules occupy empty spaces. hence ice has an open structure as compared to water.

yes, a plane is a 2D body so motion in it can't be 3D

no I think the particle will move along the lines of force only when they are straight and the particle doesnt have any initial velocity. if the lines are curved, the particle may not follow them.

well what I understand is, N doesn't have vacant orbitals so as to form bonds with water ( it is called hydrolysis)
