in the first part br2 disproportionates
br2 + naoh ---> nabr03 + nabr

so the n factor is == 5 + 1 == 6]
( in first oxidaion n factor is 5 . in reduction n factor is 1 . so eff n factor is 6 )
hence eq wt is m/6

do rate me if it was of any help

while nucleophilicity and basicity are closely related ... here are some subtle differences:

1.   nucleophilicity is kinetically controled but basicity is thermodynamically controlled  i.e temperature dependent .
2.   for a compound to be a good base it must have high charge density . a nucleophile in addition to this should hv large size as well.
3.   nucleophile shud attak on the electron deficient central atom whereas a base attacks on a proton ( or  the h atom in the compound )
4.    lastly stearic factors play an important role .

practice more on these lines and u'll get the concept

this is not by any advertisement of any coaching institute but straight from my chem teacher at fiitjee (( he is the hod)

physics: 50
chem :50
maths : 55
total : 180-200 ( highly unlikely to cross 200)
a score of 250 can easily fetch a person a rank arnd 1200 .
and 4 all those who think cut off wil be arnd 250..... calculate ur marks first and then carefully see the actual brilliance of the paper . if u stil dont believe me ..then wait n watch

my dear frendz..

4 all those who thought that je was very easy , let me throw some light.
while appearing , the paper was actually not looking like jee- nothing seemed difficult as such and thud most of us attempted around 370-400 . now   now  now .... here is the catch . the easier the paper was ... the easier was to fall in the traps laid there . it seemed unlike the usual je but in the end it actually turned out to be the iit exam not in tterms of the difficulty but in terms of the absolutele conceptual clarity . the marking was also tight .
as far as i say , dont expect the cut off to be beyond 200 which most of the students say . most of us in the end hv predicted our score to be around 350 but check the answes ...u might be in 4 a shock!
so al the best n no need to get really worried if u r not scoring above 300 ...scoring above might well land u in the top 500

Jesus and Satan were having an ongoing argument about who was better on his computer. They had been going at it for days, and God was tired of hearing all of the bickering. Finally God said, "Cool it. I am going to set up a test that will run two hours and I will judge who does the better job."

So down Satan and Jesus sat at the keyboards and typed away. They moused. They did spreadsheets. They wrote reports. They sent faxes. They sent e-mail. They sent out e-mail with attachments. They downloaded. They did some genealogy reports. They made cards.
They did every known job. But ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, the rain poured and, of course, the electricity went off. Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld. Jesus just sighed. The electricity finally flickered back on, and each of them restarted their computers. Satan started searching frantically, screaming "It's gone! it's all gone! I lost everything when the power went
out!"

Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the past two hours. Satan observed this and became irate. "Wait! He cheated, how did he do it?" God shrugged and said, "Jesus saves."

What God Can Do With 57 Cents.
A sobbing little girl stood near a small church from which she had been turned away because it "was too crowded." "I can't go to Sunday School" she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by. Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason and, taking her by the hand, took her inside and found a place for her in the Sunday School class. The child was so touched that she went to bed that night thinking of the children who have no place to worship Jesus.
Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement buildings and the parents called for the kindhearted pastor, who had befriended their daughter, to handle the final arrangements. As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled purse was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump. Inside was found 57 cents and a note scribbled in childish handwriting which read, "This is to help build the little church bigger so more children can go to Sunday school." For two years she had saved for this offering of love. When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he would do. Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love and devotion. He challenged his deacons to get busy and raise enough money for the larger building.
But the story does not end there! A newspaper learned of the story and published it. It was read by a Realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth many thousands. When told that the church could not pay so much, he offered it for 57 cents. Church members made large donations. Checks came from far and wide. Within five years the little girl's gift had increased to $250,000.00--a huge sum for that time (near the turn of the century). Her unselfish love had paid large dividends.
When you are in the city of Philadelphia, look up Temple Baptist Church, with a seating capacity of 3,300 and Temple University, where hundreds of students are trained. Have a look, too, at the Good Samaritan Hospital and at a Sunday School building which houses hundreds of Sunday scholars, so that no child in the area will ever need to be left outside during Sunday school time. In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the sweet face of the little girl whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history. Alongside of it is a portrait of her kind pastor, Dr. Russell H. Conwell, author of the book, "Acres of Diamonds" --a true story. It just goes to show WHAT GOD CAN DO WITH 57 cents.

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked
if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said "God is good. God is
great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets
us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"
Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard
a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today
don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is
God mad at me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was
certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentle man approached the table. He
winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a
great prayer." "Really?" my son asked "Cross my heart." Then in
theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this
whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice
cream is good for the soul sometimes."
Naturally, I bought my kid's ice cream at the end
of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I
will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word
walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told
her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes
and my soul is good already."

God Bless.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much
less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop
and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in
front of him. "How much is an ice cream sundae?" he
asked. "Fifty cents," replied the waitress. The
little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and
studied the coins in it. "Well, how much is a plain
dish of ice cream?" he inquired. By now more people were waiting
for a table and the waitress was growing impatient.
"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied." The
little boy again counted his coins. "I'll have the
plain ice cream," he said. The waitress brought the ice cream,
put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy
finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left.
When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped
down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty
dish, were two nickels and five pennies - You see, he
couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have
enough left to leave her a tip.

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from
school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd." I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friend tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses,
and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives." He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.
I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I
asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play football on Saturday with me and my friends. He said yes.

We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him. And my friends
thought the same of him. Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, "Damn boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!" He just laughed and handed me half the books. Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I was going to Duke.
I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to
be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship. Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak.
Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself
during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than me and all the girls loved him! Boy, sometimes I was jealous. Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!" He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. "Thanks," he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began.
"Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your
parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach... but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story." I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself. He told of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully, I was
saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."
I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest
moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.
Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's
life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others
