well mukhtab...thanx for your comments...now plz tell me in which manipal university is your neighbour studying...??? sikkim or karnataka...??? and he must hv got thru the nri sponsored category...where only a relative of yours who is compulsarily an nri...has to officially sponsor your entire education process in the university....

well.....see last year i had written both the exams and did pretty decently in both and after taking a lot of info. about both the universities...i finally decided to join in manipal...both are almost of the same quality...but manipal is much more reputed worldwide currently(don't forget vit is relatively very new to the scene)...both are extremely strict about education...but in manipal the campus life is much better....the weather in this town is really wonderful and so are the environs...placements are very good...around 105 companies come here every year....and recruitment by core companies is slightly more here than vit...similarly on campus placements are also a little better...but manipal is costlier than vit...but i can assure you that u will be satisfied more than 100% with the type of facilities u get there....
overall it will cost u somewhere around 1.5 lakhs a year in VIT while in manipal it will be around 2 lakhs...but as i said u will get much much better value added services...so spending that extra amount will not be a matter ultimately...
plus student culture here is also extremely good...dont ever listen to stupid people who say there is drugs problem in manipal....its not at all there...plus ragging is really zero here....seniors as well as the management is also very helpful...all in all u will have a gr8 time in this only eco-friendly university town of india.....

see my dear friends the perception about a certain brand of college is always very important and okay i agree that bits pilani is better than manipal....actually a lot better....but goa and hyderabad are still new comers...they will always be valued bcoz of the reputation of bits pilani....so basically comparing them with manipal is stupidity right now (which was sadly done on this thread)....
someone was telling me about drugs in manipal....let me tell u that please dont spread these types of illogical statements without prior and proper information.....all the students at least in my hostel and the other hostels meant for indians are free from all such stuff....they dont hv time for all that....they are pretty busy with their studies or clubs like iaeste or ieee or akshay urja and many others.....see yaar mit, manipal has changed from a money based institute to a merit based one....(ppl still feel about it the way they used to do 10 years ago...)
and well even i dunno where i can give u proof of the branch grade u were asking me....but my professors only told me about this...not only the mech. deptt. profs but the other deptt. profs as well....even i know quite a few jee rankers in my university....i myself cleared extended merit list in jee...and got 271 in bits....but my rank in manipal enat was gud enuf for a complete freeship and i joined....

i am a student of manipal institute of technology in manipal,karnataka....its a decent place to study....and you will have a very good future if you remain focussed on your career....while on the other hand...sikkim manipal intitute of technology is not that reputed....cant compare it with mit,manipal....the latter is much much better,.....so now coming to no. of seats....its about 1800 and if you want to get into this university on merit basis.....you will hv to do well in the entrance...specially if u want a decent branch....
the level of paper is easy.....though they cover a lot of syllabus....only thing....240 questions.....in 150 minutes.....negative marking may or may not be there......if u want a branch like mechanical....u will need a score of atleast around 134/240.......

currently in manipal....in the year 2008....many students have come who have preffered manipal over bits goa and hyderabad.....there is no point comparing the two....coz manipal is lot better than bits goa.....this year you will rarely find students bunking classes(fine imposed on the students per hour of class bunk...50/hour...) there are hell a lot of exams here....hence students are forced to study....and as i said this years' counselling has answered all critics regarding the student quaity in mit,manipal.....ece over at 1900....mech. over at 3300...comp. sc. over at 2800....civil over at 4000...chemical over at 4400...printing over at 5200.....e&e over at 3200....aerospace over at 4100....automobile over at 4300....i&p over at 4200...i&c over at 3900.....so you know gone are those days....when ppl. at ranks of 10k and 15k used to get mech. and civil out here....so get real and try to accept the truth...... placements here are also very good.....the mech. department here is the best in the country after iit-k and iit-kgp....it is graded as A+ by HRD Ministry of India...bits goa and all cant even come close to it....companies like schlumberger,ingersoll rand,honda,toyota,shelletc... visit here on a regular basis.....so all critics shut up and watch the rise of might mighty MIT......

manipal is a lot better than vit...only ground of criticism was its student quality being bad....this years counselling has proved manipal's dominance in the private education sector....vit is definitely not bad.....visit manipal.info for all the latest info. about the university and its colleges....

i think from the indian perspective MIT,manipal is a good college....certainly you can't call it above average....

well....there are a few reasons which i feel has contributed to this pattern of the counselling :
1.abolishing the state quota in the NITs.
2.improvement in the level of placements(on par with many nits and above a few)
3.very good quality hostel life.
4.very less ragging(the director has gone very strict over this from 2006 and the situation has been improving day by day)
5.reasonable fee(considering all the facilities provided along with the basic needs)
6.a very good brand perception of the university (very well recognised abroad) although mainly due to the kmc manipal.
7.many still not trusting the quality and future of the new iits and bits hyderabad(to the extent they should)

even interest matters....last year one of my friends got 3.8k in jee..but ended up in vit with mech.
dis year...i know two guys who are joining in manipal....they both got ranks in the range of 3.5k-4k...so are these people not gonna succeed...????

lagta hai yahan gyaanibaba ka gyan hume dhoka de raha hai....see,getting into an IIT is always difficult..and those who clear the jee through good general ranks...hats off to all those ppl....but dont forget that success in life is a much wider concept...getting in an IIT...fine...but you cant stop working....one of my seniors studying in IIT-R was very overconfident after his selection....and literally stopped studying after joining the institute...today he finds himself ineligible for placements courtesy of a poor show in academics(he got at least one or two backs in almost all the exams and later cleared it with poor percentages)....isn't it a shame...while on the other hand...his schoolmate who was doing mechanical engineering at NIT Raipur maintained a gpa of about 9 throughout the years...(he could not clear IIT in the mains) and now he has got a decent package from NTPC....he plans to join the public sector giant and along with it also prepare for CAT..coz he will get ample time to do that.....
i think you are/were a student of VJTI...isliye u included it in that list...it really doesn't deserve to be alongside institutes like the IITs,IIIT-H or NSIT...

agreed...even in manipal university...three or four coaching centres for GRE/MAT/CAT/GMAT are there and these have pretty good faculty...so institute wise no probs....ya...i do agree that the no. is few...so you gotta choose between these only...if you are interested in CAT...then first go through the basics of MACRO ECONOMICS....

i wud now suggest you to stay back in delhi and study there....remember its all in your hands...manipal is definitely a little better than MAIT...but if leaving delhi is a concern for you...better go for MAIT...
