The slopes of the wind screens of two cars are 1=30 degrees and 2=15 degrees respectively. At what ratio v1/v2 of the velocities of the cars will the drivers see the hailstones bounced by the windscreens of their cars in the vertical direction?  (assume the hail stones fall vertically)

Thanx for giving me ur email add
I'll contact u soon......
By the way dont hesitate to ask if the solution is not clear
And, instead of calling me kghedriu,  u can call me kgh (or) harsha

Hey Vipul, r u sure this is the question,
cos, directly substituting x=a  gives u the answer to be 0.

since ^2 >=0,   to get the resultant sum as zero, u should consider n^2+n<=0

Hi,
U remember that though the shell breaks into two, the centre of mass doesnot deviate from its path (very imp statement)
Suppose, r be the distance of landing of cannon here,r=2  )
For the 2m mass,  2mv=0+mv'   (conserving momentum)...............(1)
For the shell,  r/2=vt (since it falls fron top most point)
From (1), u have vel of the other block to be 2v
so, its dist from the topmost point is 2vt=2(r/2)=r
HENCE, ITS DIST FROM STARTING POINT WILL BE r/2+r = 1.5r
                                                   hope its clear.....kghedriu

In this problem, I am representing the vectors a^,b^,c^  by a,b,c respectively.
Given:  aXb=pa+qb+rc
        so, 0=p+3/5 q+3/5 r .........(1)  (apply dot product with a)
 similarly, 0=3/5p +q + 3/5r..........(2)  (apply dot product with b)
 subtracting (1) and (2)  gives: p=q
substituting this in any one of the above equations gives r = -(8/3)q
now, applying modulus on both sides for the given equation gives:
                 16/25 = p^2 + q^2 + r^2+ 2(p.q+q.r+r.p)
now, u know that each have 53deg angle between them,
  applying p=q and r=-(8/3)q,
 we get,   q^2=9/55 = m/n
 Hence, m+n=64
Now, dont forget to see the above mentioned message.   PLEEEZE

Hi Apoorva,
Do u need it right now? or, can u wait till tomorrow?
I will try to work out, but it may not be possible today cos I have some work regarding math.

A block slides along an inclined plane in various directions. If it recieves an initial velocity 'v' directed downwards along the plane, its motion will be uniformly directed and it comes to rest after travelling a distance L1. If the vel of same magnitude is imparted in upward direction, it comes to rest after travelling a dist L2.At the bottom of the plane, a perfectly smooth horizontal guide is fixed. If the block is given same vel along the guide, how much dist does it travel????

As suggested, Basavaraju and Ghosh's "mecahnics and thermodynamics" is good. For still better results (in fact, the best results) as far as this chapter is concerned, follow WAVES AND THERMODYNAMICS book of the 'physics galaxy' series written by Ashish Arora............U'LL DEFINITELY FEEL TOO BETTER                                                                    kghedriu

I have a small controversy....
Do u think that the frictional force will be absent when the body is moving with constant velocity????????
Please tell me if I m wrong                 kghedriu

I think u ve got the point tejasvi. Bcos, two -OH grps are not suficient to create steric hindrances (clear from the existance of stable Al(OH)3  ) The reason u gave can be easily undrestood if one studies the mechanism of such reactions.
HEY, I ve posted a message 2 u in the column 'Arihant or Tandon'

HI
See, assume two persons 1,2 standing on a large rotating disc. 1is at the centre with a ball in his hand and 2 is on the edge. When 2 throws the ball to 1, it actually misses him . A person on the ground knows that this is because the disc had carried away 2 while the ball didnot deviate its st line path (here, the ball is not rolled on the disc)
But for 2, he feels that he is at rest and the ball has actually moved. He accounts this to a pseudo force called Coriolis force. It comes into picture only when the ball has certain velocity.....ok
Hey, i ve answered ur rainbow qn...pls see                     kgh
