interesting discussion...i for one am for the idea.i gave my JEE last year (2007), and qualified (P&I@IITD)

i can see now that a lot of ppl in my batch are droppers, and are doing just fine..

in fact those who dropped a year along with taking some non-IIT engg college (DCE BITS etc etc) are faring infact better because of their exposure and knowledge..and if u r thinking about sitting around your juniors..let me tell u that is an absolutely ridiculous statement..some of my best friends @ IITD are infact senior to me, and as far as the extra effort is concerned, yes IIT IS WORTH IT...

there's no need to clutter your minds with too many books...for JEE, just get a few GOOD books..(hc verma, rc mukherjee, peter syjes, tmh for maths), get ur concepts right..then take some correspondence test series or something...thats it...at the end you'll realize you buy too many books and study the same things from different sources again and again...absolutely useless...

which course exactly in industrial engineering are you asking about? there's production & industrial at IITD and IITR, which are basically similar in structure to mechanical engineering, without thermal engineering and a few courses here & there..with more focus on management and more industry oriented. I'm doing P&I from IITD, so I can only tell you about my own course with a good degree of info..
