See velocity of river is 5kmph and vel. of man w.r.t still water is 3kmph making  with the flow of river(taken along x -axis) so resolve all velocities in their x-y components. then on y-axis v_mansin  gives resultant velocity in y-axis. so calculate time by :  d/v i.e. 500m/v_man sin i.e 10 min/sin.

 

minimum drift: u now know the time so use in x-axis having velocities v_river & v_mancos.   it sholud come as  drift= v_river +v_man cos * t.
