 n is even
In a queue there are n people n/2 people have 10 rupee note
and n/2 have 5 rupee coi.
the price of the ticket is 5 rupee and assume and from the start the cashier
has no change find the probability the line wont stop or get hold for the want of cash.
THE ABOVE QUESTION WAS DISCUSSED IN THE COMMUNITY AND THEY SAID THAT THE ANSWER WAS 2/n+2
i wasnt able to get the technique they employed please help
also suggest some way in which i can improve my probabilty topic
I am very weak in probability
cheers

hi peter_pete.
I am explaining with an example
 this might help you
suppose there are 6 people standing in the line. In which 3 people
with  10 rupee note and 3 people with  5 rupee coin

let a denote  people giving 5 rupee coin

let b denote  people giving 10 rupee note
possible number of ways without stopping that is when cashier has change all the time

  a  a  a  b  b  b
  a  a  b  a  b  b
  a  a  b  b  a  b
  a  b  a  b  a  b
  a  b  a  a  b  b
now you can see there are (6-1) combinations with 3! combination for
each 5 rupee coin and 10 rupee note
n(E)= total number of ways =(6-1)*3!3!=180
n(s)=exhaustive case as 6 people can stand in any way =6!=720

probability= n(E)/n(s)= 1/4

 1/4 is nothing but 1/(1 + (6/2) )

The yardstick of human intelligence is the ability to overcome the last fallacy

I suppose rahul's approach should help u out.

The Scientist does not study nature because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it, & he delights in it because it is beautiful. If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, life would not be worth living. Ofcourse I do not here speak of that beauty that strikes the senses, the beauty of qualities & appearances; not that I undervalue such beauty, far from it, but it has nothing to do with science; I mean that profounder beauty which comes from the harmoniuos order of the parts, & which a pure intelligence can grasp.
