Well, this year, one of my friends got a rank of 3900, and was called for counselling. Another friend of mine got a rank of 4002 and wasnt called for counselling. So I think the cut off must be around 400th rank. Hope that clears your query. I got rank of 1013, and dunno if I'll get ece branch.

If the candidates are Tamil Nadu & if their CBSE or State board percentages are above 94% they will get much better colleges like Anna University, PSG, Coimbatore Institute of tech, SSN than SASTRA. These colleges are ranked much higher than SASTRA in the India's top 100 best eng. colleges list. Since the seats in these colleges are only for TN students based on 10+2 marks, they will get any group they want in these better colleges if their % is above 94%. All these colleges are very old & they have lot of seats in each of the groups - all reserved for TN students only.

Hey adiniv!
Well, my friend just got to know his results on june 10th, and as the counselling hasn't started, I don't know what branch he would get. But I am sure that you'll get a very good branch, as not many students take sastra (based on board marks). AIEEE fills its seats to a good extent. There will be quite a lot of dropouts, so you will get a good branch there, though I dont know if you will get mechanical there, as it is the most popular branch there.

i know for sure that the first cut of is 4000 but what i am asking is the point that what is the maximum cut off according to last year may be in the 2nd or 3rd counsellings because as u said there are a large number of dropouts . any way what are the total number of seats available in that college through board.
actually i am asking this because vit and manipal are better than sastra but they take in upto 12000 although 1st councelling is only upto 4k so similar case can be expected from sastra i suppose

SASTRA dont have refund policy if you withdraw your admission. Also you have to pay 4 year full fees if you have to withdraw your admission and get your certificates back incase after admissions you get a better college than SASTRA. This amount is more than 1.5 lakhs - This policy is totally unlawful. Every other university in India has refund policy For those who are from TN with board of CBSE percentage above 90%, make a decision judiciously. Because statistics are looking as follows: there are only 800 candidates in entire TN who got more than 90% but there more than 2000 seats in just the 4 top colleges - Anna Univ, PSG, CIT, SSN which give admissions to only TN candidates based on marks. SASTRA is no way near to the reputation of these colleges - these are world reputed institutions (like Anna & PSG). Beside these 4 there are other deemed universities like VIT, Manipal, Amrita, SRM which are much better than SASTRA. So TN candidates above 90% marks will get any group they want in these excellent colleges - dont miss the chance of grabbing seat in PSG, CIT or SSN. So make right decision if your percentage is above 90% & think 100 times before surrendering your certificates to SASTRA - they will not return until you pay 1.5 lakhs

Are you sure that only 800 students got 90% +? If so, that'd be great. Has anyone decided to join sastra?
