WHY DOES DIPOLE REMAINS STABLE IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT IT CONTAINS 2 OPPOSITELY CHARGED PARTICLES??WHY SHOULDN'T THEY GET ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER????

a dipole is stable though it consists 2 opp charges b'coz they are seperated by a resonable amt of distance to overcome thir repulsive forces

actually , dipole is a system which contains 2 opp charges seperated bya distance such that distance of field point is greater than the distance between the opp charges.

Well, dipoles don't exist to a great extent in practical situations. So if you're thinking of two point charges held apart, give up that belief, because that's simply an idealisation. One way of getting close to a dipole, is I guess, to rub the ends of an insulating rod in such a way that both ends get opposite charges. Or you should be looking at the molecular level(the HCl molecule, for instance), where there is inter-electronic repulsion to counter the attractive force.

there is an attraction but it is very weak as the particles r of very negligible masses.but when they are brought together centre of
+ve charge overlaps with centre of -ve charge.

basicaly dipole is a concept and not neccessary that they r seperated in air or vaccume medium dipole can be constructed using a solid rod also . Ofcource there must be atractive force between two opposit charge but they r seperated by some stenghten objec , it can be molecules , stick ,or any solid object whether microscopic or macroscopic. This is the only reason due to which the r not getting collapsed to each other.

hi hard core genius.when the dipole lies parallel to the external electric field the angle betw. external electric field and the dipole is 0 so per the equation for work done W=PEcos(THETA), cos(THETA =cos(0).so W=PE and thus is in stable equilibrium
