when a car travells wid a speed of 30 m/s and a person sitting inside throws a ball in forward direction wid a speed of 20m/s <<with respect to the car >> then to a person on earth the velocity is 50m/s <<<that was easy >> now when a space space ship travells wid a velocity of 1x10^8 m/s and a person flashes torch in forward direction,,.. den wat shall be the velocity of light ,,for a person standing on earth ???

3 x 108 m/s.
The speed of light is invariant in different reference frames. This is one of the basic principles of relativity

the first is the case when the time is not relative in any frame be it car or earth.....but when you travel at the speed of light time does become relative ..for eg if two bodies are approaching each other with the speed of light their relative velocity should become twice the speed of light but it still remains the same

This is not at all brainy. I think you have just got to know about the relativity. Speed of light is a constant in every reference frame in any medium.

ok then let us put saome brainstuff in dat ...
i once read an article.... dat if we can anyhow travel at the speed of light.......then we can reach our future....
the time was measured vid d help of a cesium clock....
einstein had his comments on this....
so u peaople have any?????

hey chimp... now let me ask a q.... let say there r two spaceships...& one of them is going with the speed of 3x10^8 m/s...& other spaceship(which is at rest, just behind the other one) switch on its head light....then what will happen?? will light be following the spaceship?? or????

you cannot saythat he'll be in future.if you die from sun on earth with speed of light you'll be in past.

HERES TO CLARIFYING UR DOUBT OF GOING INTO THE FUTURE. m = M / ( 1 - vsq/ c sq)^ (1/2)
u cant travel faster than light, as else there will be negative value under root sign hence equation will not be valid. at speed of light mass will become infinity.
but somehow if u were able to surpass speed of light... u would jus be able to travel along with light and reach an area where light is going to reach soon. thus u can say uve seen the past of tht region. because for people in normal conditions , the place will be lighted already when they see it. but you went and saw it before light reached it cos ur faster than speed of light.
you cant go into the future. explain ur ideas and i will respond

hey dude who told u that we cant go in future or past iff u waa explanation, i think u dont know about takhions(particles which travels more than speed of light)so dude it is now possible to go with speed of light and more just the need is the accelerator to produce such speed and only way to get away from problem is that we can have antimatter accelerator as only antimatter can accelerate matter to more than speed of light so dude it is possible to go in futer or past but we the bloody ppls yet have to study antimatter more efficiently and today is nt possible to create such antimatter accelerator we r having this trouble

lol do u know what anti matter is? it is a concept that for every matter there is anti matter.. u cant just take anti matter from something and work on it.

in black holes anti matter and matter come into same phase and matter stops existing in the form as we know it. ive read this in stephen hawking's works
