Please answer the following question for me........

Two particles of mass 1 kg and 2 kg respectively are initailly 10 m apart. At time t=0, they start moving towards each other with uniform speeds 2m/s and 1 m/s respectively. Find the displacement of their centre of mass at t=1s.

rc.o.m =m1r1+m2 r2 /m1+m2

as we are considering displacement r1= 2 ,r2 =-1 ...put the values and get the desired answer

see first find the velocity of centre of mass by using m1v1 + m2v2/m1+m2
...since they r moving towards each other velocities r in opp direction ...
therefore velocity of centre of mass will be 1x2 - 2x 1/
2+1
=0....since velocity of centre of mass is zero hence displacement will be 0.....nudge me if u hv any doubt

Vcm = m1v1 + m2V2/m1+m2
        = 1*2 - 2*1/3      { particles are moving towards eachother so one with positive sign and other with - sign)

Vcm = 0

thus centre of mass remains at rest always

The heights which great men reached and kept, Were not attained by sudden flight, They, whilst their companions slept, Were toiling upwards in the night....

initially m1u1 = m2u2 hence centre of mass is at rest and will be at rest after collision too.
