why does temperature  remain constant  during a phase change???(assuming an ideal substance)

Be Strong Be Different. Just Be

During phase change, the heat supplied gets used nly to change the state...eg from liq to solid and not to increase temperature

the heat absorbed accounts only 4 the latent heat needed 4 phase change which is due to change in intramolecular forces during phase change...

I think whenever heat is provided to a substance it is mainly used to increase the molecular motion or velocity which results in increase of kinetic temperature of the substance as it is directly linked to the velocity of constituent molecules.
However, we can talk of phase change as a point where it is very difficult to increase the velocity of molecules.Hence some heat has to be supplied just to break the molecular force of attraction then the velocity can further be increased. This heat is called Latent heat which if not provided doesnot result in increase of temperature.
I am not sure about this but it seems possible!!!

temperature increases only when the kinetic energy increases... but at phase transition states the energy which is absorbed breaks away the weak bonds whcih determine the state of a solid (van der waals forces or lattice forces)...

I hope u get it..

durin a phase change,

say ice to water,
energy supplied is utilized to brak the bonds rather than helpin the moloecules to gain kinetic energy........

so tepm does not increase........

this word is so small that it is a foolishness to hate anyone.
so, we love all.

latent heat concept

heat is absorbed to weaken attractive forces and not change kinetic energy

during the transition stage from one phase to another, the heat absorbed is mainly used for breaking the energy barrier between the 2 states , that is the energy is consumed to increase the inter molecular distance between 2 molecules against the inter molecular forces of attraction. Thus there is no temp. increase.
