how wil the position or nature  of image vary if a lens is cut into two parts nd is placed at different positions on principal axis???

well the nature of image does not vary.
the only thing that has to be done is to consider the cut part as a normat convex lens and then solve.

if u use half of the lens, the intensity or brightness of image will become half... and other properties will remain same such as virtual or real, erect or inverted, magnified or diminished

When u cut it  into  two halves
 
(a) along  it's  principal axis
 
then
focal length  will not  change,intensity  changes
 
 
(b) along  an axis passing through it  perpendicular  to  principal  axis
 
focal length  changes  to  twice  each

well yeah.. when we cut accross the principal axis .. nothing happens .. as ppl hav pointed out just the intensity changes ..

it is one of the celebrated problems .. appear frequently in different forms ..
