and then there's reaction with Diethyl oxalate and then with alkyl halides: only one mole is required for salt formation in d case of tertiary amines, sec :2 moles and primary:1 mole... there...3 tests...

why dont u try hinsbergs test??? with seconday amines n,n diethyl benzenesulphonamide is formed when it reacts wiht hinsberg reagent and the product in insoluble in alkali!! wheras when it does not show ne reaction with tertiary amine. (hinsberg reagent is benzenesulphonl chloride

1) with HNO2 sec amine formed R2NH + HNO2------->R2NNO(oily) + H2O bt tert amine does nt gv so it only dissolves. 2)then hinbergs test that must be given in ncert. 3)hofmann mustard oil reaction. thats reaction with carbon disulphide followed by HgCl2 primary gv black ppt of Hgs and sec does nt gv and tert does not show any reaction.

react both the amines with hinsberg reagent(Ph-SO2Cl)...tert amines dont react...and sec amine reacts but the product is not soluble in alkali...
if it is a primary amine, the product dissolves in alkali..
