hello, fst of all make aldol of acetone then go for reduction u w'll get the product as 1,3 butanediol

C-CO-C------KMnO4---->C-COOH------H2/Pd----->C-CHO---DIL.NaOH---> C-C(OH)-C-CHO----H2/Pd----->C-C(OH)-C-(OH) xcuse me for not writing the hydrogen atoms ,bit lazy hope this helps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this method is not the proper one according to the yield point of view...so that can't be taken as the proper conversion.

dev oct's method is correct but the question is to convert acetone to butan-1,3-diol and not acetaldehyde to butan-1,3-diol.
Just subject acetone and methanal to aldol condensation, and then reduce with LiAlH4
|
