We all know that unlike charges attract. A few days back, someone asked me "WHY does +ve charge attract -ve charge? WHY does proton attract electron? WHY does Electrostatic force exist?" And I was unable to answer. Can anyone give an answer, or is it 'fundamental and non-defineable' ?

well its by inv square law....any way the explanantion would be tht a charge placed in the vicinity of another charge experinces a force as it is present in the electric field of another charge,....this causes attractin and charges interact....welll hope u got it/....

in every attractive force ther exists an exchange of particles.... like in the nuclear forces of attraction there is an exchange of particles known as mesons.... similarly in the case of gravitation there is the exchange of particles known as gravitons... hence the exchange of these particles leads to the presence of the attractive forces...

Actually we'll have to delve into a bit higher concept of Electric Field(or Electrostatic Force Lines) Lines. Here in the diagram's first two parts we see that the field lines in case of first diagram terminate and in second diagram they do not .Hence the repulsion is dependent on termination of field lines,as per the diagrams, and the concept of Electric Field.
