see

work done by the gas from a to b =  18 pv = 27 pv / (1- x )

solving , u get x = -1/2

given gas is monoatomic, hence Cv = 3/2 R

therefore

specific heat , C = 3/2 R + R/ (1 - x )

= 3/2 R + 2/3 R
= 13 R/ 6

thts a formula.....for a process in which PVx the work done is (P1 V1 - P2 V2)/x-1 hope u got it....POLYTROPIC EQU as arpan says....
