the answer is (a), becuase contact force is the vector sum of the normal and the frictional force ( which are perpendicular to each other). (d) is not the answer as contact force and frictional forces are are equal in case of zero friction. the reason given by ganesha may not be true

For a body at rest... contact force is not greater than the normal force.

yes the correct answers are (A)  & (D).reason is


normal force & friction force are the componant of


the contact force.(B) can be correct but in case of


frictionless surface it cannot be correct.
