Q.A number is chosen at random from{1,2,3,........1000}.Then the probability that n is a number which leaves a remainder 1 when divided by 7 is?


1.71/500


2.143/1000


3.72/500

The first Number between 1 to 1000........which when divided by 7 gives 1 remainder is 8......and the last one is 995.......so total such numbers are.....142.......using Arithematic Progression.......


and thus req.Probability  = 142 / 1000 = 71 / 500........

Find the number of numbers congruent to 1 mod 7. there are 143 such numbers as 1000/7 is 142.8666. so ans is 143/1000. BECAUSE 1 is also 1 mod 7.

142*7=994


So there are 142 numbers which give the remainder 1 when divided by 7.


Hence, P = 142/1000


                  = 71/500
