Q. A double star is a system of two stars(say having masses m1 and m2) moving around the centre of inertia of the system due to gravitation. Then, ratio of sweeps of area osf star of mass m1 to the star of mass m2 is ----------------------------.

Well if we go by general physics, then one must simply equate the area to be circular and about center of inertia,, they will sweep areas, in ratio:   (m1)2 /(m2)2

But if we apply modified kepler's law,, we can conclude that in same time they will sweep equal areas, makin ratio to be one=1...

I liked this tricky question.

But the answer is (m2/m1)2.

yes it is (m2/m1)^2

centre of mass will be closer to heavier star so it will have less area covered when the system pivots about that point.
