which of the following is non periodic
1) f(x) = x - [x]
2) F(x) = 1, if x is rational
0 , if x is irrational
3) F(x) = cosx
4) none of these

i think they are all periodic.. abt the 2nd one.. i dont think it is possible to find fundamental period.
the fact is that bw any 2 rational nos you will have an irrational numb., and vice versa.
so altho it seems periodic.. it is not possible to find FUNDAMENTAL period, but any other perid is simple to find.. eg all integers are periods.

1) period = 1 3) period = 2pi 2) no defined period as there are infinite rational numbers between two irrational numbers and vice versa.

ya this second part was discussed earlier by some expert even though it has no defined period it has infinite oscillations in the graph. so answer shud b (d)
