Given that

                 C +O2 -------> CO2           delta H = -X KJ

                 2CO2 ---------> 2CO2       delta H = -Y KJ

Enthalpy of formation of CO will be

a) Y-2X

b) 2X-Y/2

c) Y-2X/2

The enthalpy of formation shud be found for the reaction

C+1/2O2CO.This can be obtained by 1st reaction-1/2the 2nd reaction.So,the ans is optionB that is 2X-Y/2.

The second reaction must be 2CO+O22CO2.It may be a typo mistake.Atleast i think so and hence posted the above solution.

See 2CO2 --> 2CO2 is no reaction. There is same mistake. WIth Allamaraju's equation his answer is right.
