I DONT THINK IT CAN BE FOUND OUT BY USING GAUSS LAW COZ. FOR APPLYING GAUSS LAW WE HAVE TO MAKE A GAUSSIAN SURFACE AND THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE SURFACE IS THT EACH POINT ON IT MUST HAVE SAME ELECTRIC FIELD FOR WHICH A SYMMETRRIC SURFACE IS REQUIRED AND FOR CONE I DONT THINK SUCH A SURFACE IS POSSIBLE.

yes the electric field due to a conducting cone can be found if the electric field is perpendicular to its base(circle)

then =E.r2(area of base circle)

E=/r2

hope u got it.

N HOW COME ELECTRIC FIELD PERPENDICULAR WHEN IT IS UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE SURFACE OF THE CONE.wHT ABT THE REST SURFACE OF GAUSSIAN SURFACE.R U TRYING TO SAY THT FLUX THROUGH THEM WILL BE ZERO???

right manja.thts wht i was saying. how come the curved surface is not taken into account coz. in tht case the electric field will not be same at all the points and hence GAUSS thoerum cant be applied as the E will not come out of the integral.

well the best method is to divide the cone into two halves u get a triangle and a half circle thru wich flux is damn easy to find!! that flux is half of total flucx thru curved srfaces
