why are all halogens non metals...while in other groups there is a gradual change..

non metals
have a basic property to accept electron and attain noble gas config
while metals prefer to lose
in halogen they have 7 electrons its easy to gain 1 than to loose 7
its not that it is impossible(actually it is there in interhalogen compounds)

in other grps we have the factor that big size accounts for metallic character inc down a grp and we have it in halogen too
mark my words it is metallic character and not metal
|

Yaar its very simple a metal is one which prefers to loose electron.Since loosing of 7 electrons is absurd (or) it requires a lot of energy. but its very easy to accept 1electron
