Why is the velocity in a projectile motion or SHM etc divided into sin(theta) on the y axis and cos(theta) on the

see vikram in projectile (2 d motion) we have the vel. component in 2 perpendicular dir. i.e. x axis and y axis so as we can calculate the quantities of vertical and horizontal individually.

Because u take theta as angle between the trajectory n the x axis.

So, when u do like this, try drawin a rt angle triangle with the velocity vector as hypotenuse n one side as x axis. U will find tat the magnitude of velocity vector on x axis is V cos theta. Whn u take hypotenuse n y axis, u will get y component as V sin theta.

gud qs.......its sumthing people cram....


ok....in case of a projectile........the angle which the trajectory of the particle makes wid the x-axis...is actually a cos component of the angle......u knw cos theta function will satisfy the vertical angle drawn at that point....


and so the horizontal component is always v cos thera..


and similarlly vertical v sin theta...

but the concept is the same.......


and so is the case with accelerated motion...where we break horizontal n vertical components...


wahan par bhi brk it cos along the x axis andin terms of sin with the verticalaxis...with the angle ofcourse..
