Thirty cubes are stacked in square layer to form a tower. The bottom layer
measures 4 cubes by 4 cubes , the next layer 3 cubes by three cubes, the next layer
2 cubes by 2 cubes and top layer is single cube.
a) Determine the total surface area of the towers of cubes (do not include the bottom ).
b) what would be the volume if the bottom layer of cubes was 8 cubes by 8 cubes.

assuming each cube is of unit dimension first calc the area of sides(vertical) 4(4+3+2+1)=40. now the top surface(horizontal)in the lower most one there will be 7 top surfaces in the next 5 in the next 3 then at last 1 so total 56 this does not include the base

in the next q u r changing only the base or it goes like 8,7,....1 i shall assume the second case the total vol is going to be 8*8+7*7+.....1*1 =204
