I've got AIR 1213 in JEE and a score of 342 in BITSAT.
I live in Delhi.
I was going through last year's cutoffs for each brach in all the IIT's, and according to that, i may just about scrape into Chemical Engg. at Delhi. I can get into Chem. Engg. at Kanpur or Industrial Production and Design at Delhi. Bombay etc. do not have any such courses available at my rank.
I don't want to do a 5 year course. And i guess a course in Delhi would be preferable, but am not fixed that i HAVE to do the course in delhi.
What would you suggest is a good option out of the ones i mentioned and the reasons as well. Please suggest alternative courses as well. I personally would prefer IP&D at Delhi. And does Chemical Engg. involve a lot of chemistry? And how are the placements in the 2 of them?
And should i consider a course in BITS? 'Cause I should be able to get electrical there, if not Comp Sc. But from what ive heard, if you want to pursue MBA abroad(which i want to), it is much better to go to IIT's. Please comment on this, wether it's a fact or a myth.
But then i guess its madness to leave 1213 rank in jee.
Any help and suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Frankly your 342 wouldn't get you anything superb at BITS either. You should get EnI though....
If you are not really interested in any branch in particular , take whatever you get in IIT-D.
As for your comment about pursuing an MBA abroad , you can do that from BITS too.And besides , to pursue an MBA abroad you need 3-5 yrs of work exp.And thats the imp part , not just which place you did your undergrad from.
Chem Engg , from what I have heard does involve some Chemistry but also involves some mechanical Engg subjects.I think there is an IITian who did his Chem Engg , on this forum , plz ask him.

getting a good jee rank doesnt mean u have to go to iit....it depends on your aim and interests...im sure u must have a aim in life that u want to do a career in such and such a course...Had u decided that u would do the job of ur choice and interest or that u just want to go into iit?...dont aim for the college but for ur interest...if u do the course of ur choice, the interest in it will automatically get u the job and money u need and not the other way around...the basic thing is enjoying what u learn and not enjoying the college or its name..remember whatever any1 may say, iit is not the end of the world...

In IITD you will certainly get Chemical. Remember there are a lot more seats this time. You might even get IITB Chemical. You should also look into Engineering physics at IIT Madras, and Computer Science at IIT Guwahati as other excellent options.

I DONOT FEEL THAT THERE IS ANY RESAON FOR A DILEMA. BITS, PILANI IS UNDOUTEDLY RANKED BETTER THAN A COUPLE OF IITs. AT 342, YOU MAY BE OFFERED ELECTRIC & ELECTRONICS ENGG AT BITS, PILANI. BUT THEN IITs HAVE A BRAND VALUE. WITH JEEAIR 1213 YOU ARE VERY COMFORTABLY PLACED. YOU HAVE MANY OPTIONS LIKE ELECTRICAL AT ROORKEE, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION AT DELHI, ELECTRONICS AT GUWAHATI , ENGG PHYSICS AT MUMBAI - DELHI, CHEMICAL AT KANPUR- KHARAGPUR ETC. YOU MAY CHOOSE A COURSE OF YOUR LIKING. PREVIOUS YEAR MY SON HAD SECURED AIR 1076 AND HAD ALSO SECURED 387 IN BITSAT 2007. HE WAS OFFERED COMPUTER ENGG AT BITS, PILANI. FULLY RESPECTING BITS, PILANI, HE DECIDED TO GO IN FOR INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION AT IIT, DELHI. BUT DONOT GET INFLUENCED BY THIS. HE DID WHAT HE BELIEVED THE BEST. YOU MAY DECIDE SUITABLY.
BEST OF LUCK.

EnI is pretty good too , but people give it a lower preference thinking that its a bad branch.Nothing like that. All Core Companies that come for Electronics , treat EEE and EnI equally. If you want to know more about EEE and EnI , chk out http://www.bits360.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=422

yaar you should not give up such a good rank as 1213 for any college.
you are very comfortably placed and have several options with you now. do think about the dual degrees and the newer courses too, don't keep your mind biased against them. you can take it from me, who has been in iit for 1 yr now, that there is no difference whatsoever b/w a btech and dual, course is the same for the first 3 yrs and then they branch out. infact many of my snrs have changed their course from btech to dd at a later stage as they felt that it was more appropriate.
at 1213 you have several several options with you, and once you are in, really your course will not matter. life is the same for all of us. in one year itself the lines become very blurred and you realize that it all doesn't matter. you just need to give your best shot to your course and you will be comfortably placed. all said and done though you need to make a list of courses avbl and your preference. also don't keep stupid biases like chem will be abt chemistry, or cs will have only c++ and java stuff. it's all crap. frankly you won't have any idea abt ur course until you take it, and mostly it will surprise you.
so go ahead confidently, u don't need to leave iit at 1200's. Best of Luck!
