AND there was a mention of relaxation of rules! which means that after reservation, they will reduce the cutoffs to admit students in any way to fill the seats, which, i feel, is preposterous. Reservation is fine if deserving candidates are being left out - but here they may be actually admitting students who would not have got the seat under normal circumstances (under the force of merit) just because them being OBCs!

That would be very sad.
You cant forcefully admit students when they don't desrve it.

The counselling Brouchure states that there are 657 OBC seats this year. Make it 657+180 =837 for the three other new IITs.
And JEE has given 1134 ranks. That becomes 1.35 times the total seats.
But the ranking procedure states that under each category only 1.15 times the total seats will be given
Whats goin on here?

You shouldn't add 180 seats for other 3 new IITs. Each new IT has only 33 OBC seats. So only 99 seats to be added.

Leftover seats of OBC will be given to the general candidates. I went to the counselling of IIT-JEE at IIT-Bombay and the JEE chairman himself has announced this in the Convocation hall in front of thousands of people that left over seats of OBC will be given to general (that is why there is a common merit list for general & OBC) while left over SC & ST seats will remain vacant. so do not believe any rumour............. left over OBC seats r for general.........
