for defining potential we need to take a refrence point......if we take
Va=0
den
Vo=-1V
and Vb==0

nobody is wrong
even a stopped clock is right twice a day

CURRENT FLOWS FROM HIGHER POTENTIAL TO LOWER POTENTIAL THEN HOW DOES IT FLOW FROM O TO B ??

hey man b is at lowe potential than o..

if Va=0, then
Vo=0
Vb=0
current flows through the resistor bbecause therre is a potential difference across it..so where is the problem?

Use mesh analysis.

-2i + 1 + 1 - 2i + 1 - 2i = 0

3 = 6i

i = 0.5A

Will nip in at times to solve problems :)

Its a pretty simple question. What's the problem in solving it? :O

All the 3 batteries are in series and all the 3 resistors are in series.
So, net V = 3V
Net R = 6
I=V/R
=3/6
=0.5 A

in the circuit u have va = vb = vc then why does current flow ???what is potential at o ?????

if it is lower than that at a then why shud current flow from o to b
as then b is at higher potential than o ?????????

Yaar, see the circuit on a whole.

As a complete circuit, it doesnt have 3 batteries and 3 resistances. It effectively has a single battery of 3 V and a single resistor of 6 ohms. So there is a NET potential difference across a resistor. So the current flows.

If u want to solve it analytically, I have shown this in figure.

Assume potentials at A = V, B = V', C = 0

Hence, P.D. across the resistor AB = (V+1) - V'

P.D. across the resistor BC = V' - (-1)

P.D. across the resistor AC = V - 1

Hence, there is some potential difference across each resistor. If U make an equation and solve it, u will get the same answer(although it wud be foolish to do so. This will convert a 2 line question into a full page length ques).

@x4
my prevous post is correct and it doesn"t refquire modification..
see
potential at any point is subject to change according to the choice of reference point..

see for current to flow through a resistor a potentail difference is required across its two terminals ..which is available in this case..hence current flows through the resistor..

and finally o is at higher potential than b...
