oxygen having 6 electrons in its outermost shell forms a covalent bond with its own atom and forms an o2 molecule so why doesnt florine having  more electronegativity and same no of elctrons in its outermost shell forms a bond wid its own atoms???

err, it does, doesnt it? something called fluorine gas, F2....

First of all, Fluorine does form covalent bonds with another atom of fluorine: F2 and secondly, it doesn't have same no. of electrons as oxygen. It has 7 electrons in its valence shell.

It forms a single covalent bond with itself .

               F - F

As it has 7 valence electrons, it needs 1 more to complete its octet and be stable, so two atoms of F share one - one electron and forms F2.

u can easily say taht flourine forms f2 see the molecular orbital theory it suggests evrything
bond order is 1
