when alpha particles are sent through a thin foil ,most of them go straight through the foil.....answer: is this is because 1.alpha particles are much heavier than electons....is this reason is correct 2.most part of atom is empty space

BOTH.
1- If they were light, their path wud have changed due to electron-alpha particle interaction(electrons are -ve charged and alpha particles +ve charged).
2- If most of the atom was not empty space, the alpha particles wud have collided with atoms and deflected from their path.

the most part of the atom of the foil is empty.. hence the alpha particles pass through...
answer should be 2...
tarin might be right abt the 1st option but m nt sure abt it so won t suggest it to ya.... and moreover no examination wud award u for such an answer.. i think evn the answer in the solution wud b 2

1 is also correct. Its given in many books including NCERT.

both r correct ...alpha particles have +2 charge which is definately heavier thn electron charge .... for furthur observations regarding alpha particles ,,shud study rutherford's model
