After thinking a lot, the only sense of this 'clever' English I could make out was that, area made by the sides of the rectangle... that is a square of side l and a square of side b have areas l^@ and b^2 respectively.
Now the diagonal of the rectangle is root (l^2 + b^2) , and if you consider a square with side equal to this diagonal, then its area will be the square of it, which is l^2 + b^2 itself.. and is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares that can be made by the length and breadth of the rectangle.

It is nothing but the same as Pythagoras theorem.


Instead of right angled triangle it is interpreted in form of rectangle and was given much before by d Indian mathematician BAUDHAYAN
