It forms geminal dihalide, The C=O is broken to form CCl2.
with PCl5 or SOCl2.

Yes, CH3CHO forms CH3COCL with PCl5. THE REACTION GOES LIKE THIS:-
CH3CHO + PCl5 GIVES CH3COCl + PCl3 + HCl..
