why do strong field ligands not follow hund's rule?
|
Smoke like a chimney, work like a horse, eat without thinking, go for a walk only in really pleasant company |

Due to strong field they force the electrons to get paired thus violating the Hund's rule.

Due to the strong fields exhibited by these ligands, they result in maximum splitting of d-orbitals, and in maximum differencce in energies of orbitals while spitting, and u'll observe that Hunds Rule is not obeyed in configurations from d4 to d7 in ions or atoms. Hope this helps
