Hi friends i have made a quection All of us know that global warming is one of the biggest problem of this century. suppose scientist finds a methord by which they can change the earth orbital speed(linear) suppose after increasing radius by 1% the temperature earth falls by 1kelvin how much earth orbital speed will be required to increase/decrease for decreasing the temp by 5k?

Hey, wat you're trying to say is that by increasing the surface area of the earth, the amount of radiation the earth gives out will increase and the temp will decrease. But there are three problems with this approach (even if you ignore the cost/benefit ratio) 1) 5 K is a lot of heat you know. I haven't calculated it yet but it would mean a huge increase in surface area. 2) According to popular global warming theory, the whole reason the earth is warming up is cuz of the retention of heat due to the greenhouse gas layer. So even if you managed to get the earth to radiate more, it would still remain the same temperature since that radiation would come back. 3) I suggest you do a little reading on the subject because there are a lot of holes in what the papers and the news reports on Global warming and the truth is that climate science simply does not exist to a level where scientists can talk with the certainty that some of these reporters use. The thing is that at best global warming is an unprovved theory and at worst, is a huge hoax!! Go to these sites: http://fathersforlife.org/REA/warming.htm http://www.friendsofscience.org/index.php?ide=3 And you might want to read this novel by micheal crichton : State of fear. It's been brilliantly researched.

no i did NOT mean that just what i was saying is to increase the radius of earth orbit NOT earth radius by increasing earth orbital radius the temp of earth will definitely fall i don"t think i need to to read about it

Let me approch the question from very basic. If we change earth's orbital radius from r o kr, th energy reachinf eart will change from E to E/k^2. As this is also equal to energy emited by earth which is proportional to T^4 so the temp will change from T to T/sqrt(k). As present temp of earh is about 280K to make it 275K k should br (280/275)^2 which is about 1.037. So to decrease temperatur from 280 to 275 earth's radius should increase by about 3.7%

earth"s orbital speed can change if an asteroid collide from earth it willbe decrease if it will collide in opposite direction as that of as that of earth"s orbital velocity at tht instant and will increase if it collide frm behind

ok,,,but i don`t think that it is a possible SOLUTION,,,collision of a comet will ruin the earth,,,moreover alterations in the normal cycle will disturb it and life will end

instead using some chemical compound to make it react with the greenhouse gases and bring down the concentration would be easier and if the chemical compund used is also recyclable it would be far more worth it and also observing no vehicle day etc. should be done apart from changing to non polluting fuels and also like the conversion of cars to LPG we must try to convert all vehicles on petrol and diesel to LPG and abandon the use of petrol and diesel for vehicles and also planting trees everywhere seems to be a long term solution!!!!!!!
