A disproportionation reaction is one in which a single substance is both oxidised and reduced.
Example :

Only oxidation state of chlorine has changed. One atom has been reduced because its oxidation state has fallen. The other has been oxidised. 2 electrons are lost in oxidation half reaction while 2 electrons are gained in reduction half reaction.

hi disproportionation reaction is a reaction in which the same substance goes to a lower oxdn. state and a higher oxdn. state i.e, it gets oxidised and reduced simultaneously. u can find an example for this in any book. rate me if u find it useful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
