 IIT Delhi is an autonomous statutory body established under the Institutes of Technology Act as amendment made by The Institute of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963. All the IITs are administered by a Council established by the Government of India. The Council is headed by the Minister for Human Resource Development of the Government of India. This council helps in the co ordination among these IITs. Board of Governors administers the activities in that particular IIT to which it belongs. Chairman of the IIT Delhi's Board of Governors is Prof. V. S. Ramamurthy.
The Institute keeps on scheduling the collaborative programs to encounter the scientific and technological developments. There are many collaborative research projects that are going on with the esteemed institutions in Austria, France, Norway, Israel, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, UK, and USA.
Institute is situated at Hauz Khas in South of Delhi. Its campus of the Institute extends to an area of 320 acres.It is well connected with the major cities. It is 14 Km away from New Delhi Railway Station, 10 km from Delhi Airport and 21 km away from the Inter-State Bus Terminal.
