Plastic Engineering:
Plastic engineering is a branch of chemical engineering that basically deals with polymers. Polymers, as a science student would know, are organic compounds which can be molded into various shapes and find incredible use in our day-to-day lives. They are used for packaging, to plastic plants, to domestic items, containers, pipes and automobile parts and the list is endless!! Plastic engineering involves processing, designing, developing, and manufacturing plastics products. Since the use of plastics is so widespread the professional opportunities in this field are limitless. Students who have completed 10+2 or equivalent examinations, with a background in science, are eligible for the B.Tech courses in plastic technology.
Career Prospects:
The rate of growth of this industry is very high. The telecommunication, transport, packaging and electricity are the important sectors that employ plastic engineers. Plastic engineers can also find jobs in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Oil and Natural Gas Commission, and Oil India Laboratories, Petrochemicals Engineering Plants, Indian Institute of Petroleum, Polymers Corporations of different states, Petroleum Conservation Research Association of India, Petrofiles Cooperative Limited and other such organizations.
