these are type of elimination reaction E1 and E2.both type of reaction fevoured by strong bases like sodamide or alcoholic KOH or potassium ter.butoxide or any metal alkoxide.for both type of reaction reactivity of alkyl halide is 3>2>1.following fectors describe E1 1.first step is hetrolytic fission of alkyl halide to form carbocation 2.abstrection of proton by strong base in fast step so it is two step process with order of reaction 1.here strong base is requried with low concentration .reactivity is 3>2>1 because tertery alkyl halide by elimination forms maximum stable alkene.example of E1 reaction is dehydration of alcohol where formation of carbocation takes place.E2 reaction describe by following fectors 1.single step process where strong base abstrect proton from alkyl halide in slow step with no carbocation so rate of reaction depends upon both concentration of both base and alkyl halide so order of reaction is 2 here high concentration of base is required.in this reaction isotopic effect also occurs because C-H bond breaking takes place in slow rate determining step.
