Introduction:Control & Instrumentation Engineering:

Control and instrumentation engineering is a intermediary branch, in between electrical and electronics engineering, catering to the needs of design and testing of various industrial instruments. It basically deals in manufacturing, configuring and making the automated instruments efficient and result oriented.

CI engineers work towards making the industry equipment and handling the calliberation process in various industries like mechanical, civil, electrical,chemical and their likes. They decide which kind of instrument will be implemented at which level and ensure its working .

This stream has its scope in almost every sphere in this era of globalization and tends to increase due to
increasing industrial revolution.

Job Prospects:

CI engineers are required in heavy numbers by R&D units of all bigwigs in manufacturing and designing arena. They are also hired by steel industries, cement and raw materials industries because a continuous appraisal of quality is required in these industries.

One may choose to play a parallel role by attaining a management degree and guiding the managerial process or can go in for specialist ion in a few particular branches of instrumentation. An option to be at a teaching post is also considered by a few aspirants who are inclined towards imparting their knowledge or philanthropy

Control and instrumentation engineers (CI engineers) develop skills in specific control disciplines such as advanced process control (APC), distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).
A CI engineer should be able to :

Design , develop,maintain and modify various control instruments.
liaising with clients, suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities (e.g. the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority).
mange projects troubleshoot and develop more clients and proposals.
guide and provide consultancy on the same.
purchasing equipment.
writing computer software.
